Possum Magic - It's the Final Border

Yes it's true we are at the end of our Possum Magic Round Robin!

Even more frightening I've finished my border with days to spare???....I know ...What The Fancy Pants is going on in Casa OWB?!!

More on that later....lets get to the pics...that's the interesting stuff

 

 This is Alice's centre ( pic from her blog ) and if you click here she has a great post on all the centre's in their original state.

Alice had been saving this gorgeous Liberty fabric for a special project and I hope she doesn't mind that I used the last teeny scraps of it in the final border!

I knew that I wanted to repeat the Sawtooth Star block that Alice had used in her centre, so I just started hunting through my stash for some gorgeous girly prints and found a pile...yes a pile!...of Lecien that I had selected for a swap and then changed my mind.

I even threw in a bit of Bonnie and Camille and some vintage Oasis by 3 Sisters!!...I sooo need a sort out!

56 six and half inch blocks later....I could have easily kept these and made a really girly quilt!

 

I'd initially looked for the Heather Bailey Print that Wendy used in her first border but could only find the one in the corner with the dark green dots...it was too stark against all the soft pastels.....so I looked again...I was sure I'd had some ...then Voila!

Down the back of some other Yellows, 1/2 a yard....cue Happy Dance!

I added 1" strips to the ends of the Stars and alternated them so they would dance around the edge and hopefully give some movement.....and it meant less seam matching LOL

 

She finished up at 88 1/2" square and is a Monster quilt but she is very dainty and delicate filled with Butterflies, Vines and the most perfectly appliqued Flowers and teeny tiny Yo-Yo's I have ever seen!!!

Then because I had a gorgeous pile of scraps I had to make Blossom the Bunny, the heart in the bottom right hand pic is her tail.....the cuteness is sickening.....I hid her from Little OWB...mean Mummy!!

Possum Magic Border # 6 - Mrs Peacocks Quilt

Possum Magic is almost at it's end!!

Where has a year gone??

Mrs Peacock as she has been christened by Carla is also known to her family as Wendy, both these ladies are prolific Crafters and very good Bloggers....they even keep their blogs up to date???...who does that these days LOL

Anyway, this is how Wendy's quilt was looking when it arrived lots of Blue,Purple,Teal ( hence the Mrs Peacock ) and with some gorgeous splashes of Cerise and Lime

So this is the stack I pulled, quite alot of Kaffe in there as I know Wendy is a fan

What I really wanted to do was the Sun Rays paper pieced block  but when I printed out the 44 blocks I needed I realised that the pattern was actually TWO HALVES pieced together making it 88 halves and a bucket load of point matching......I admitted defeat...there was no way I was going to get it done on time!

But I still wanted to repeat the spikiness somehow of the centre star, and neither the half X block or the Wonky Star block were cutting it....so when in doubt lay it on the floor and just stare at it...

AAAAAAANNNNDDDD Stare some more...then make a cuppa and surf the Net

 

Then Voila you see something jiggle it around on the photocopier, chop it in half and it becomes the perfect block...YAY...happy dance

 

Block is one half of this Quilt Pattern by Rashida Coleman Hale
 and all I did was replace the 4 segments in the diamond with lime string blocks so that they echoed the pointy star in the middle....whaddya think?

Auditioning very very thin borders....I think it was 1/4" finished....nightmare against the biased seams of the star edges

 

But I really did love the finished look

 

And some of the gorgeous accidental  fabric match ups and with careful fabric placement I think you could really highlight the 3D effect you get, which was difficult to show in these pics.

 

A whole quilt done like this is DEFINITELY being added to my Bucket list....

 

The last few borders are making these quilts a little large to photograph well

 

So the before work shots were pegged to the fence LOL

 

Even standing on Little OWB's table didn't make me high enough....the neighbours think I'm Bonkers leaping around my back yard at 7.30 in the morning!

 

I'm already over half way through with Alice's border for her Possum Magic Quilt and it's of a completely style, which is what keeps this Round Robin fun and stimulating.

I really will be sad when it's over, but can't wait to see all the finished tops!

Possum Magic Border 5 - The Ladder To Crazytown

Possum Magic is almost over!!

It's hard to believe there are only two more borders to go before our quilts all arrive back from where they began!

Border 5 had me adding to Sharon's Quilt, which began with this gorgeous centre!

It is a gorgeous scrappy Dresden with the teeniest hexagons I've ever seen......aaaaaand all fussy cut!! WTF!!

When Serena added these Granny Square blocks (also teeny tiny) a couple of borders back I had my AHA moment....I would add a square based block border to repeat the theme depending on what Jo and Jane did.

Luckily for me neither went for squares and in the meantime I settled on the Jacob's Ladder block.

I initially made two blocks with white running through the centre for the ladder but it wasn't right?

Change it to a bright contrasting Solid and now we're cooking!

As in previous rounds I managed to F*&%$ up the orientation between the floor and the machine but luckily I posted this late night photo to IG and Wendy Possum spotted it for me before I mailed it.

A quick unpick and a few Mother Hallelujahs and it was fixed and on it's way to Alice

It really is a beautiful quilt with ,I believe well over 300 different fabrics in it!

I'm in love with this Emily Herrick Rustique print....and purple it seems?????

And Anna Maria Horner's True Colours I think were made just for me....I don't care what you all say they are mine mwahahahaha

I currently have Wendy's beautiful quilt.....and I'm stuck...hopefully that will pass real soon...but I seem to do my best work under pressure...SIGH

Possum Magic - Border # 4 , Quills My Dear

Sorry guys that this post is so overdue, I know many of you are curious as to where exactly we are at?

This round I was working on is for Jo's quilt which began with this centre

Boy has it evolved since that one lone arrow!!!

Sorry for the badly cropped photo below but I alway forget to take a photo before I start working on it.....I won't with Sharon's....I promise!

Border 1 is by Serena which were the extra arrows. Then Border 2 is by Carla which added the very clever bullseye and Border 3 is by Jane who expanded the bullseye theme with the octagon blocks top and bottom.

The colours in this quilt are really much more saturated than what is showing here so I definitely knew it was gonna be an AMH kinda day, with a bit of Tula and C&S thrown in to make it fun

My first idea was AMH feathers that you see all over blogland and I love but unless I reduced the size I felt that they were going to take over the quilt instead of adding to it...that was making my brain hurt LOL

So I went with the partial arrow repitition instead...just the quills.It wasn't technically too difficult but since I improv'd the design and worked out the size last it took a bit of faffing around...typical me really

I did a poll on IG for the orientation and the vertical way was the winner

I was soooo tempted to throw the whole quilt orientation on it's ear and do something down each side as well ......

But I stuck to the top and bottom look so Alice didn't freak out too much....LOL

I can't wait to see what becomes of this quilt

All of these quilts I would more than happily keep for myself

Possum Magic Update - Border # 3 Dazed and Confused

Possum Magic update time!!

This time round I received Serena's Quilt and I was super excited! For once I had a preconceived plan....I know unheard of round here lately!!

Don't get too excited, it's never straight forward in the OWB house. For those of you new to the House of OWB and have no idea what I'm gabbling on about pop over here and catch up....I'll wait...

So this is Serena's centre

 

 

Which she then sent to Carla who did this to it

 

 At which point Carla then sent it to Jane who then added the squares

At which point it arrived on my doorstep.I knew that the centre was from Piece by Numbers , which is incidently where I got my Ladybug pattern for Carla's quilt from, and that the 1st border was a variation of that.

 But I hadn't seen Jane's addition as she hasn't had much time to blog since she became Editor in Chief of Make Modern the newest online Quilting Mag.

Luckily she did what I hoped and that was a rainbow colour saturated block of some kind....Booyah!

I wanted to do more geese and on a light background but not in a circular configuration but still keeping a curved theme....so began my journey with the dazed and confused geese....and my seam ripper!!!

A simple concept?...absolutely.....technical difficulty?...not great ....ability to turn your brain to mush at the end of the day? ....without a hint of a doubt!!!!

The slow part was my brain could only do one block at a time, even though I had the fabrics all picked out, I couldn't do speed piecing as the orientation of the blocks required you to sometimes sew on the printed side of the paper and sometimes on the blank side!!!

Recipe for late night swearing in the NTH DEGREE....then I found out halfway through that I was going to run oput of my favourite Heath in Grey, I didn't have another yard stashed......and wait for it....it is now out of print!

My undies were so twisted it's a wonder I could sew straight.!!

Instagram to the rescue ...my peeps sent out a call and lovely Anne from @elmosmate sent me some scraps while I waited for the last yard on the Earth to come from ScrappyGirl on Etsy.

And she's done!!

But not quite....teal geese on top decided to try and buck the flow, which I only noticed after I posted a pic on IG. AAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH

Fixed the next day and I sent her on her way.

This was the mess left on my floor and if you looked inside my head my brain would match 

 linking up with Sew Cute Tuesday and Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday.
