Friday Finishes - Psychedelic Legs & Bunnies

Friday again??

This last part of the year is flicking  past me like a Kardashian hair piece!!

I don't even know if I've even had an October...although my credit card statement says  " oh yes you have Missy!" LOL

I escaped to Auckland for a work commitment and decided to extend it into a Mummy weekend.....shopping,resting,eating and using the bathroom facilities all by my self!!

The Fabric Store.....I went 3 times...I now have a loyalty card....sigh

I didn't take photos of all the deliciousness...I couldn't be too crazy, they were keeping a close eye on me what with all the stroking and sighing going on!!

But I bought alot of fabric and a little Liberty Fabric Knit for Little OWB....cause that makes it seem like you're really in there for practical reasons (rolls eyes!)

I followed the Best Tutorial Ever!! by Dana from Made Everyday, here's the link

I do have an overlocker (serger) but I used a little of both techniques and seriously you could easily just use a regular machine if you just read you manual (who does that until you have a screw up) and use the recommended stretchy stich or just a zig zag.

My mother made our clothes and all our ball dresses and one of my sisters wedding dresses so I'm used to handmade....looks like little OWB will be the same YAY

Although I think it's just the opportunity to pose and be the Star that she is LOL

In Quilty news I finished a WIP that has been lying around for two years!!!

Following on from last weeks post which was all about baby quilts and critters, I used the Bunny portion of the Fancy Forest pattern by Elizabeth Hartman to finish a teenage quilt top. This girl is turning 15 in January and is mad on Bunnies and used to love pink and black...here's hoping it's still the case LOL

Phew you made it! See you on Sunday for my stash report....

Possum Magic - It's the Final Border

Yes it's true we are at the end of our Possum Magic Round Robin!

Even more frightening I've finished my border with days to spare???....I know ...What The Fancy Pants is going on in Casa OWB?!!

More on that later....lets get to the pics...that's the interesting stuff

IMG_7567

This is Alice's centre ( pic from her blog ) and if you click here she has a great post on all the centre's in their original state.

Alice had been saving this gorgeous Liberty fabric for a special project and I hope she doesn't mind that I used the last teeny scraps of it in the final border!

I knew that I wanted to repeat the Sawtooth Star block that Alice had used in her centre, so I just started hunting through my stash for some gorgeous girly prints and found a pile...yes a pile!...of Lecien that I had selected for a swap and then changed my mind.

I even threw in a bit of Bonnie and Camille and some vintage Oasis by 3 Sisters!!...I sooo need a sort out!

56 six and half inch blocks later....I could have easily kept these and made a really girly quilt!

I'd initially looked for the Heather Bailey Print that Wendy used in her first border but could only find the one in the corner with the dark green dots...it was too stark against all the soft pastels.....so I looked again...I was sure I'd had some ...then Voila!

Down the back of some other Yellows, 1/2 a yard....cue Happy Dance!

I added 1" strips to the ends of the Stars and alternated them so they would dance around the edge and hopefully give some movement.....and it meant less seam matching LOL

She finished up at 88 1/2" square and is a Monster quilt but she is very dainty and delicate filled with Butterflies, Vines and the most perfectly appliqued Flowers and teeny tiny Yo-Yo's I have ever seen!!!

Then because I had a gorgeous pile of scraps I had to make Blossom the Bunny, the heart in the bottom right hand pic is her tail.....the cuteness is sickening.....I hid her from Little OWB...mean Mummy!!

Pattern is in this issue of Love Patchwork and Quilting Mag

Friday Finishes - About Bloody Time!

Well Hello There!!

You guys are awesome! All the lovely comments you are leaving for my giveaway are making me feel delicious...give yourselves an extra piece of chocolate! I will close it up on Sunday xxx

Friday for me started at 4am with Little OWB waking up......and then vomiting...everywhere!

Poor wee soss, but it did mean a day off work and sitting very still while she napped on me.....so I finally manged to put the binding on this quilt!!!!

I still love it, and I even like the backing that I let the boys choose!

She's bright baby!
I collect Chenille bedspreads and use them as quilt backs for that extra snuggle factor and to provide some weight that I feel sometimes cotton wadding lacks.

I bound it with some V&A that I've lying around for about 4 years? Quite cool spooky trees as a large piece, but just higgeldy piggeldy low volume as a binding, perfect I think.
The Plus Quilt ( my names suck ) ends up at a good wrap around size of  50 x 70.

Now this baby is HUMONGOUS! So much so that I couldn't get a decent photo of her even tho I stood on all sorts of things...I'm a midget!

It finishes up at a whopping 71' x 86" including the border.

Throw another Chenille backing on it and it's really heavy and delicious! I used two different lines of MoMo, Flutterby and Just Wing It.Both are quite hard to find now...shame

I machine bound this big girl with Leaf Vine in Cherry from Oh Deer, which you can still find bits and pieces of.

My longarmer quilter her all over in big butterflies

and little butterflies.

I'm so glad I can finally show you guys a finish or two!

Finishes Yay - And Two Have Moved Out Already

Lots and lots of pictures coming up...you were warned

So it seems I have been doing some finishing amid the shambles that is my routine at the moment...yay!

Feels soooo good to look at these all together and feel like I've accomplished something this week and made some other people happy too...doesn't get any better...two of these have already gone to new homes!

This baby quilt was done so quickly ( 2hrs)  that I didn't even get time to take any quilty stats about it.
Eldest son's "Someone Special" has a new nephew arriving any day now and when she saw the other baby quilt come back from the longarmer she fell in love....how could I not offer to make one as a gift??

They were both flying out in a few days to Aussie for 3 weeks so I knew I wouldn't have time to quilt it myself...work, kids blah blah blah...so I quickly text my Quilter and she said sure drop it off 3 day turnaround!!

Machine quilted binding, scrummy chenille backing

And gorgeous hands quilted all over

Too perfect for a wee boy me thinks, last of my Sweetwater Reunion and a little Mormor to round out the primary colours

I couldn't resist a pic of a pile of quilts ready to be bound and snuggled

Binding ready to go

Baby quilt of Triangles that somehow dropped on the floor and got missed from the other Triangle Quilt, so in the spirit of not wasting anything I sewed them together used a skinny white border and had exactly the right amount of Chez Moi by Moda that I have had for far too long...done dusted

And just scrumptious, it's quilted all over in a Fleur de Lis pattern and has softened up beautifully after the dryer

No home as yet for this one
Quilt size 36" x 49"

Little OWB is growing up too fast and obviously observing her Mumma all the time she knows exactly how to turn Lady Muck on even if I switch her off at the wall!! Not even 2 yet...scary

These were early morning photos when wee one was asleep so they are a little bit off in colour. This was purely an exercise in triangle sewing and a colour combo I was stuck on....pink,orange and low volume prints

Once again it washed up beautifully and I love that I used up some of the prints in a scrappy binding...I feel oddly satisfied when a fabric is all gone? Except of course for my must haves then it's PANIC and I must buy more...weird

Finished size is 40" x 63"...also no home as yet

Last but certainly not least the custom baby quilt for Dear Friend's first Grandchild!!! She's only a couple of years older than me but it seems frightening when I have a toddler....AAAAAGH

Mum To Be chose the colours and I really enjoyed pulling from my stash to match her paint chips

I hope she's just as pleased

If you got to the end of this post well done....it was looooong, have a lovely weekend and catch you on Sunday for Fabric stashing....

Good Friday - No Work Yay

Hiya...just popping in very quickly cause it's late and I'm tired, but I have been doing some stuff!

Well I cut into it to fill the void that is my "boy pile of baby quilts"

It's a Donut or Hug block whichever takes your fancy?

Sorry for the awful night pics but it's been raining and raining and raining and just for fun a bit of lightening thrown in for about 3 days now...enough already my washing is disintegrating on the line LOL

Pieced and ready for quilting....12 1/2" blocks unfinished and 1 1/2" sashing of Le Crème Basics

And just to prove I'm bat shit crazy in case you were wondering I have cut up the rest of the fat quarters and laid out a plus quilt!!!......Yes that is my dining room table once again covered in fabric

Judge away ....I'm good with it...and because it's appropriate lets link up with Fabric Frenzy Friday and TGIFF because I'm always thankful when I reach Friday in one piece!
