It is Friday again and although I've missed a few I do have a finish to show
Sometimes there are stories to go with your quilts
I have written this post a couple of times for Friday but never quite finished as this little quilt has a sad story...it is the quilt that I finished straight after Mr One Wee Bird passed away a phrase I never thought I would be writing at the ripe old age of 42!!!
I certainly didn't think I would share such an awful," keeping it real" post, EVER!!! when I started this blog but I'm sharing because this crazy fabric, making, sewing habit and community that we are all part of is so kind and generous and welcoming.
This little mini was for my partner in the DQS14 swap and it quite literally saved me from losing my mind each night that I sat down and quilted it amid a SEA of tears
Every time I looked at this little group of bags to go with my quilt it gave me a sense of purpose that each night I had something to do and keep my hands busy
Mr OWB thought these bags were great and asked me to make one for his GoPro camera that he took surfing, fishing and diving with him.
I finished it and mailed it before the international deadline and am glad that it is not living in my house but has gone to live with someone who loves it as I'm sure it would break my heart to have to look at it everyday..... and she has sent me the most lovely words on it's story.
It makes you think about all the stories behind the quilts that you see...some may not have any ,but I bet ALOT do

Darling Rebecca --- my thoughts are with you frequently as I have been delaying my post about them out of respect to you. The mini is amazing (as is the other one) but the story involved with it makes this one truly special. Having experienced great loss twice myself, it am in awe of the work and love that went into this item and it inspires me to complete some items I have been holding onto. I will cherish it always.
ReplyDeleteAs I said above Katie you are so sweet and I'm so glad you love it...it makes me smile in this truly shitty time!
DeleteLove that colour scheme! :) So sorry for your loss. Quilting does provide a great distraction doesn't it? xx
ReplyDeleteThanks the first mini was the same colours but I had a major oops with it, lucky I had many scraps left over to stay with the same pallette
DeleteOh my goodness, I am 42 this year and cannot imagine having to go through widowhood so young. I am very sorry you have had this happen, I wish you all the very best as you move into the next phase of your life - do keep quilting if it helps soothe your soul!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen...I would not wish it on anyone, cherish every moment....quilting deadlines are helping to keep me focussed and sane for my kiddies.Thankyou for your kind wishes :)
DeleteRebecca, I am so sorry to read about the death of your husband. He sounds as if he was such a lovely man and I know that your life will be so different without him. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. You are in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteHe was quite the most delicious man I have ever met and life is forever altered, thankyou for your kind thoughts and for stopping by! Come back again for happier posts :)
DeleteWONDERFUL quilt finish and great pouches!
ReplyDeleteHi Sara!...and thankyou, it's a great tutorial although I couldn't quite get the ends of my zips to hang nicely as Anna's where the pouch meets the zip.
DeleteSo sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers. Eight years ago at the age of 44 I became a widow. One day at a time is the only way to get through it.
ReplyDeleteI am inclined to agree with you Karen, some days it's one hour at a time...thankyou for stopping by :)
DeleteCome back again!
